Early Bird Breakfast Club now has 3 branches in Metro Manila: The Fort Strip, Century Mall and Eastwood Mall. (The first one is open 24 hours while the other two close after mall hours.) It serves breakfast food and desserts from Filipino, English and French cuisines, interpreting them with a modern twist. Early Bird is a great place for whenever you crave for breakfast at any time of the day, or if you just work during non-standard hours like me. Totally relatable.
The menu items may be a bit pricey, but the portions are generous and presentable. One of our favorites was the Chorizo and Mushroom Risotto (PHP 465) because of its creamy, cheesy consistency and al dente texture. It’s a kind of comfort food for us, and it did its job.
One of the other things we got was new on the menu. The Bacon and Pineapple Scotch Eggs (PHP 315) is made of soft-boiled egg encased in lightly fried sausage meat. It is served with hashed potatoes, bacon strips, grilled tomato and some pineapple chutney on the side. Personally, I found that the dish was a bit busy, but as a person who likes to mix flavors to get something more complex, I eventually came to appreciate the marriage of sausage, bacon, pineapple and eggs.
Technically a dessert, the Yin and Yang Champorado (PHP 275) is a classic favorite for us whether we have it at the start or at the end of the meal. Half of it is made with rich Belgian dark chocolate, while the other half with Belgian white chocolate. It was perfect for sharing especially between people with opposite preferences in chocolate. It is served with sweet toasted dilis on the side–which is done traditionally with tuyo (dried salted fish)–as a contrast. Not a bad choice either.
Early bird has a list of signature drinks ranging from Nutella Hot Chocolate (PHP 145) to Butterbeer (PHP 155) (sort of like the one in Hogsmeade). It’s also partnered up with Craft Coffee. They serve Cappuccino (PHP 110) and Cafè Latte (PHP 110) with cute latte art!
The service was great. The staff was attentive to our needs, like when one of them saw us swatting away flies, he had the initiative to bring out a candle to drive them away. Overall, Early Bird is a favorite breakfast and comfort food resto for me. It’s the kind of place I wouldn’t mind going back to every now and then.
