The Best Lemon Squares!

Lemon Squares from Purple Oven ARE THE BEST! No exaggeration here. They're cut into small pieces that you can easily dunk into your mouth. They're moist, sweet, buttery and all the good things you can think of. Bursting with tangy and citrusy lemon, I like the crumbly sides and the powdered sugar dusting too. Best paired with a cup of warm coffee or if you're like me, I like taking small bites. No rush coz they're packed with flavor!

Snow Ice for Dessert!

Bing Su is currently one popular dessert. Best place to go, since they're the most popular and the pioneer is Cafe Seolhwa. Got the chance to try this place in The Forum. You have two size options - regular or large size but I'm telling you that the regular sized one is already good for sharing contrary to what their menu says that it's good for only 1 person. If you are full from your meal, I urge you to get the regular size. The large size is huge and can feed about 2-3 people already. Good thing I only got a regular sized Bing Su, else it could have been a struggle to finish the large one.

Remember Ice Monster? This is a better version. The ice was incredibly fine that it didn't feel like ice anymore. It had a generous portion of milk, just like our halo halo but since the ice was so fine, it held the milk nicely. Infused with some coffee, this Bing Su was topped with coffee crunch, almonds, cubes of cheesecake, a scoop of coffee ice cream and sweet caramel sauce. This could use more coffee, but maybe that's just me cause I always like my coffee strong. Can get a bit cloying but overall, it was good. Loved all the textures and play of flavors plus the coffee jellies buried in the milk snow!

Glorietta 3 houses Paper Moon Cafe's first branch. It was so timely that I often do my grocery rounds these days in SM Makati so Paper Moon Cafe is just a stone throw away. So, one quiet morning, I decided to finish my grocery list here. I got there a little before 11AM and the Cafe was empty! That was just what I needed that time.

I checked the flavors they offer and decided to get their Chocolate Mille Crepe. Honestly, I wanted to try their Classic and Strawberry flavored crepe cakes too but each slice was a little too pricey and I wasn't ready to spend that much for small slices. Good thing their Chocolate Mille Crepe was good! I LOVED IT!

Texture wise, it didn't have that off and weird texture. It wasn't cloying too. Loved that the rich dark chocolate filling was alternated with light pastry cream. Then the top was caramelized. Best of all, it tasted great! The filling tasted like ice cream and it wasn't too sweet. Overall, it was a light dessert but trust me when I say that a slice is not enough. I could eat 3 slices of this in one go. Seriously, that good!

French Japanese Fusion Cafe

Owned by Chef Miko Aspiras of Scout's Honor and previously of Magnum Cafe, Le Petit Soufflé promised comfort food from a fusion of classic French dishes with Japanese twist. As the name suggests, you bet that they also swear to provide awesome desserts that plays around soufflé and Matcha! The menu wasn't extensive but was enough but the line-up of dessert was nothing but great!

We gave the following a try ---

Pork Bourguignon for 425Php

This dish had a bed of garlic Japanese rice basking in a rich and flavorful red-wine sauce. It's topped with chunks of tender pork leg braised in red-wine, carrots, onions, an assortment of mushrooms and bacon. To make it really appealing, a perfectly cooked sunny side up egg took the center stage. Each spoonful was a delight! I loved how they fused French with Asian cooking. Serving a classic French dish, Bourguignon, as a rice topping totally represented each cuisine.

Squid-Ink Rice for 395Php

This dish was more like a paella topped with an assortment of seafood, Shimeji mushrooms, soft scrambled egg and a slice of fresh lemon. It had mussels, squid, octopus, fish roe and a big piece of shrimp.

Japanese Beef Curry Soufflé for 525Php

The BEST dish we've had that day. Classic Japanese curry rice made extra special by the savory cheese soufflé it was topped with. The curry rice had all the good things that a Japanese curry promises together with generous serving of fine strips of US beef short plate. The curry went well with the cheese soufflé creating a more subtle and savory blend and each spoonful was screaming with flavors! I don't like dishes with curry that much but this one was something else.
