The interior’s wood-on-cement synergy gave off a mixed urban-and-rural vibe. Sunlight flooded in freely. The hanging potted plants made everything seem so natural. It felt refreshing just being there.
The Earth Kitchen serves organic food grown by the farming communities in Tarlac. The fresh ingredients are delivered to Manila every other day. It also had a small shop inside selling other locally made products like soap, jam, fruit wine and handicrafts. I really love how it supports rural livelihood.
Overall, a really good place to have organic, healthy food while promoting local goods. Here are some of the dishes we ordered:
1. Dulong Paté: It had the right amount of saltiness contrasted with the subtly sweet jicama and cucumber sticks. (Dulong = small silver fish)
2. Squid Ink Risotto (because we always get the squid ink risotto whenever we see one): The sauce was thick, creamy and rich! The chopped French beans were mixed with the rice, giving the dish a crunchy texture. It was a pleasant surprise.
3. Chicken Kebab: The meat was so tender and marinated really well with saffron. It was really good mixed with their own blend of yoghurt dip and grilled vegetables. The dish came with flower petals. I felt like a fairy munching on them.
To complete the healthy meal, I had the Got Heart Mix juice to detox or whatever it does. (I’m clearly not into this kind of thing, but I do try.) We also got the locally brewed ale by Katipunan Craft Ales.
