ArroZeria
Spanish Restaurants   Kalayaan Ave., Makati
4.5
Arrozeria serves not only their signature paella but also other traditional Spanish cuisine such as sandwiches, greens, tapas, meat and fish, desserts, and wines. Their specialty paella can be enjoyed in 5 different ways: the classic paella (al dente and thin), caldoso (soupy), risottos (creamy), meloso (saucy) and fideua (thin noodles).

This is in Century City Mall 4F. Nice Spanish restaurant. I ordered risotto (450php) and it tasted very nice. But the amount of dishes was not so much, so if you would like to become full, it might be better to order more.

I attended a food-tasting event at ArroZeria (or "House of Rice") when it launched a new menu. While it specializes in Spanish rice dishes, ArroZeria also serves Spanish noodles–didn’t even know there was such a thing!–and rice dishes from other cuisines to help us differentiate. Most of us are only familiar with the “paella”, but who knew there were other kinds? Everything was super good! I got to try most of these:

1. Paella (pah-eh-ya): It is traditionally served “al dente and thin”, especially in the northern parts of Spain. However, we Filipinos like it “soft and wet”, so ArroZeria serves it both ways.
2. Caldoso: Soupy
3. Meloso: Saucy
4. Fideua (fee-doo-yah): Thin Noodles. Really interesting texture. We got 2 kinds: callos and squid ink. I liked both but I liked the squid ink better because it had this creamy consistency and I'm probably biased towards squid ink.
5. Risotto: Creamy. Although this is an Italian dish, Spain has adopted it to become part of its collection of rice dishes.
6. Arroz Con Costra: Egg crust on top. It was really moist and made the dish less mundane.
7. Arroz Gratinado: Gratin on top. We had the Longaniza, which had longganisa, broccoli and aioli gratin.

ArroZeria also serves other things: Tapas, Verdes, Carnes y Pescados. The Lengua Frita (deep-fried breaded ox tongue) is genius, and I especially loved the La Guapa Sangria. It’s easily one of the best sangrias in the city.

Definitely a place to visit if you're curious about the different kinds of rice dishes, or if you're simply into Spanish cuisine.
